Saudi security forces shoot down toy drone in Riyadh

The Saudi sports authorities have closed down a female fitness centre in the capital city of Kingdom-Riyadh on Friday over an argumentative promotional video that showed a woman in a figure-revealing workout attire.

Saudi Arabian security forces said they had shot down a recreational drone in the capital on Saturday after online videos showing gunfire in a neighbourhood where royal palaces are located sparked fears of possible political unrest.

Saudi Arabia's King Salman has reportedly been evacuated from the compound to a bunker at an air force base in Riyadh.

One video showed two police cars parked in the middle of a dark street.

The video which went viral on social media but could not be independently verified by the AFP displayed a woman with uncovered hair in a gym and kicking and punching a bag.

The senior Saudi official said a system would be put in place to regulate the use of recreational drones.

Authorities in Saudi Arabia are yet to comment on reports.

Some accounts, especially those visibly supportive of Saudi rival Qatar, suggested a coup attempt was unfolding, while others suggested a drone had flown too close to the palace, prompting gunfire to shoot it down.

Prince Salman returned from a month-long foreign tour earlier this month.
