Chelsea midfielder Ross Barkley 'to make injury return at Burnley'

Chelsea go into Thursday's clash with Burnley with their top-four hopes hanging by a thread.

Chelsea are now fifth in the Premier League on 60 points, and would move to within five points of fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur with a victory at Turf Moor.

Chelsea may also rotate from their 3-2 win at Southampton as they prepare to meet the same opponents in the semi-finals of the FA Cup on Sunday. We have to finish our season, our job and then there [are people] who has to judge if the season is a failure or not.

"They will throw everything at Chelsea considering they still have Arsenal in their sights". I don't think they'll keep Harry Kane quiet, so I can't see anything but a Spurs win. Fellow summer signing Cesc Fabregas produced a deft first time pass to feed Andre Schurrle in the box who finished with aplomb, capping off a 25-pass move.

He added: "Tottenham were embarrassed by Man City".

Sean Dyche's side are on a six game unbeaten streak, five of which have been wins.

"That's gone immediately, so your away win and a win have cleared up".

Burnley have managed to upset the odds this season and sustain a challenge for European qualification.

Chelsea, however, are in stuttering form, as they have been for much of 2018.

Barkley was used for an hour in Chelsea Under-23s' 3-0 win over Derby County at the end of last month and was an unused sub at Southampton last weekend.

Burnley have little fresh injury news ahead of Thursday's game, although Steven Defour remains on their long-term absentee list alongside Robbie Brady and Jonathan Walters. Georges-Kevin Nkoudou and Jonathan Walters face late fitness tests in a bid to be fit for the match.

Elsewhere, David Luiz (knee), Ethan Ampadu (ankle) and Danny Drinkwater remain out for last year's Premier League champions.

Olivier Giroud should start after scoring twice from the bench at Southampton, but Marcos Alonso could be banned for three games after being charged by the FA after an alleged stamp on Shane Long in that game.
