Soon after PM Narendra Modi spoke indirectly on Unnao - Kathua rape incidents, Congress chief Rahul Gandhi demanded to know when will the victims get justice. This is a national issue, not a political issue. After days of silence, Gandhi, earlier on Thursday, said the accused should not go unpunished.

All arterial roads leading to India Gate were blocked for vehicles as a large number of people joined the late night vigil.

He said Modi's silence over the rising atrocities against women was "unacceptable" and that India was waiting for him to speak up.

Sources said Congress chief Rahul Gandhi has asked party cadres to organise similar protests on Friday in support of protection of women. Prime Minister had given a slogan "Beti Padhao, Beti Bachao" (Save the Daughter, Teach the Daughter) and it is during his regime that our girls are being raped.

Senior Congress leader Salman Khurshid took to Twitter and said, ¿PM Modi reflects on what your ideology is doing o India.

Priyanka was accompanied by her husband Robert Vadra and their children, who were also present at the march along with other Congress leaders, party workers and students.

Congress president Rahul Gandhi has instructed his party members to carry out a candle-light march in capitals of all the states, after rape incidents in Unnao and Kathua, reported news agency ANI. What happened at #Kathua is a crime against humanity. Right now, at this point of time, all the governments are sleeping.

The rape of a 16-year old girl in Uttar Pradesh's Unnao took place reportedly last year, where the girl was gangraped by a BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar and his brother.

Without naming former Union minister Swami Chinmayananda, Mr. Sibal also referred to media reports on the Adityanath government's decision to withdraw a rape and kidnapping case against former the Union minister. Eight people have been held by the cops, including two Special Police Officers (SPOs) and a head constable, who was charged with destroying evidence.
