According to the publisher, both games will feature Japanese and English voice overs, the choice of classic or modern controls and more. Sega followed up on the critical success of Shenmue in 2001 with the equalling impressive Shenmue II for the original Xbox and Dreamcast.
Shenmue 1 & 2 will be available digitally and physically on the Playstation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
Both games' storylines revolve around Ryo Hazuki, a teenage martial artist who is in pursuit of his father's murderer. During his quest, be begins to unravel secrets behind a mysterious artifact known as the Dragon Mirror. It went on to become the fastest- and highest-funded Kickstarter video game, reaching a total of $6.3 million raised. The game features combat based on jujitsu, investigating clues, some RPG elements, and most of all some mini-games that Shenmue may be most well-known for.
The cult classic series which first appeared on the Sega Dreamcast and then later the original Xbox has a strong following that praises the game for its niche gameplay mechanics, rich storytelling, and semi-open world structure. These games are simply ports of the old games, they're not full-blown remasters so the graphics aren't going to be super top notch. The third part of the franchise will arrive a full 17 years after its predecessor, and will look to finally continue the story of the Shenmue franchise as a whole.
