UConn opens NCAA Tourney Saturday at home

If Notre Dame advances, the Irish would head out west to potentially face No. 2 seed OR if the seeds hold. "For our Duck fans it's close enough where they can justify a trip there". Louisville last advanced as far as the Elite Eight in 2014.

The Huskies won't make it a third time this season as the men's team failed to make the field, but 20 schools still have the opportunity to bring home both trophies. Vegas also has No. 3 seed MI with the fourth-best odds to take home the whole thing after winning the Big Ten Tournament, but after seeing Rutgers make a serious run in that tournament, don't hop on the Wolverine bandwagon too quickly. The Bulls face South Florida in the first round in Tallahassee. "Might be a little harder to get us in a flow offensively, but I thought we were fine". With most of their players back from last season's runner-up finish - including Morgan William, who hit the game-winner in overtime to knock off UConn - the Bulldogs hope to make another deep NCAA run. Also playing in the Storrs subregional are 8-seed Miami and 9-seed Quinnipiac, with the latter having lost to UConn in last year's Sweet 16. But of course both teams will have to navigate a tough road to get there. "I would imagine Notre Dame had 34 games". Thirty-two teams will get automatic bids for winning their conference tournament, and 32 others will receive at-large bids.

Notre Dame is the fourth 1-seed in the eyes of the selection committee, and the Fighting Irish will begin play on March 16 with Big West tournament champion CSUN being the opposition.

One interesting part of the bracket is that UConn and last year's title victor, South Carolina, landed in the same regional and could face each other in a regional final in Albany, N.Y.

"Brackets are brackets. There are good teams in every bracket", UConn coach Geno Auriemma said. The number one seed for the Albany bracket is the U Conn women. The Cardinals have proved to be a bit of an enigma for Notre Dame this season, while the 9-point loss to the UConn women shows that the Irish are capable of competing with the consensus best team in the land. Ohio State earned a No. 3 seed and will play host to No. 14 George Washington in the opening round Saturday, March 17, at 1:30 p.m.

The victor likely gets UConn.

No. 2 seed OR features sharpshooter Lexi Bando, who ranks second in the NCAA at 47.3% shooting from beyond the arc (69-146).
