Trump sacks Tillerson; appoints Central Intelligence Agency chief as new Secretary of State

The changes come as Trump considers whether to withdraw the USA from the 2015 Iran deal that Pompeo has called "disastrous".

Tillerson, the White House said, asked that Trump wait until he returned to the US, and he shortened his trip to Africa - where much of his mission revolved around softening the impact of Trump's recent reported criticisms. "My commission as secretary of state will terminate at midnight March 31st".

"I'll now return to private life as a private citizen, as a proud American, proud of the opportunity I've had to serve my country", he said.

The ex-Secretary of State had also warned Nigeria and the rest of Africa against accessing financial help from China.

US President Donald Trump has sacked US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, replacing him with Central Intelligence Agency director Mike Pompeo. Hours later, he was sacked, too. Trump told reporters he has worked very closely with Haspel and regards her as "an outstanding person". Describing Tillerson's mood, Goldstein said: "He's accepting".

Reince Priebus, the bland former chairman of the Republican National Committee, was supposed to manage the White House workflow and control the door to Trump's office.

He took a special shot at Russian Federation.

Tillerson had been seen as out-of-step with the president for months.

White House officials said Kelly told Tillerson that Trump wanted a change and he should step down.

"Tillerson's replacement by. Pompeo, who is known as a political partisan and an opponent of the Iran agreement, raises the prospect of the collapse of that deal, and increases the possibility that the administration might soon face not one, but two nuclear crises", he said.

At the same time, the United States appears to be ignoring the real situation on the ground and the actions of the Washington-backed groups in particular.

October 1, 2017 - Trump tweets that he doesn't think it's worth seeking talks with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

But in his farewell comments, Tillerson talked up his achievements in the standoff - suggesting the prospect of talks with Kim was made possible by the hard work of his State Department and allies.

Weeks before the summit's announcement, Trump humiliated Tillerson by publicly rejecting his calls for the resumption of diplomatic talks between Washington and Pyongyang, without preconditions.

Tillerson has been out of favour with Trump for months but had resisted being pushed out.

The Trump administration did not officially second those findings. Rumors about friction between Trump and Tillerson increased last fall with reports that Tillerson had called the president a "moron" while meeting with other officials. He shares numerous president's opinions and has plenty of experience communicating with Trump thanks to his daily intelligence briefing.

The President announced in a tweet that he had nominated CIA Director Mike Pompeo to take up the role, saying the 54-year-old "will do a fantastic job".

Both she and Pompeo would need confirmation by the Senate to take the positions.

The pair also never developed a particularly warm relationship. "Whether addressing the North Korean threat, fixing or nixing the broken Iran nuclear pact, or dealing with Russian Federation and China, any president deserves the right to have not only the strongest team available working on behalf of the American people, but also the individuals that he believes are best able to collaborate with him to achieve his policy objectives".
