President Trump Wants To Create A 'Space Force' To Fight Space Wars

Today at Miramar Naval Air Base in California, President Trump mentioned his idea for yet another Star Wars spinoff for a new branch of the military: the Space Force. How about the Space Force instead? "We may even have a Space Force, we'll develop another one. we have the Air Force, we'll have the Space Force".

The proposed Space Corps would have functioned like the Marine Corps does within the US Navy; it would have been responsible for overseeing all of the Air Force's operations in space. There is already an Air Force Space Command with a mission "to provide resilient and affordable space and cyberspace capabilities for the Joint Force and the Nation".

After Trump renewed the "space force" proposal, Twitter completely roasted him. That's about the timing I think you would need when you get the need for a Space Corps. "You know, I was saying it the other day because we're doing a tremendous amount of work in space. Maybe we'll have to do that.' That could happen".

Trump's own defense secretary and Air Force secretary argued vociferously against it when members of Congress pushed it a year ago, O'Keefe said.

Initially, Trump explained, he'd proposed the idea as a joke. The goal was for the USA to stay ahead of rivals like Russian Federation and China, which are advancing in space-related military operations.

The President's remarks come after a Republican plan to create a "Space Corps" as part of the Air Force was dropped from the National Defence Authorisation Act in November.
