India cricketer charged with domestic violence

The Board of Control for Cricket in India dropped Shami from a list of contracted players unveiled Wednesday, which saw skipper Virat Kohli and other top Test players awarded salaries just above $1 million.

Speaking over his inclusion in the side, DD Chief Executive Hemant Dua said, "We are waiting for a direction from BCCI on him". All players who play in the IPL have a tri-partite contract involving the franchise, BCCI and the player.

Shami was retained through right to match card (RTM) by Delhi Daredevils (DD) for Rs 3 crore in the IPL 2018 auction.

"BCCI is doing some internal checks and they said they would get back to us soon".

"I think BCCI should not withhold Mohammed Shami's contract as the issue has nothing to do with cricket and also he has not been found guilty yet", the minister said. "Ordinarily, you would distinguish and say that (the allegation) is a personal issue and the contract is a professional issue".

Mohammed Shami marked his global debut in Tests in 2013 against West Indies and has so far played 30 Test matches. "Whatever the BCCI has done, it must have done after giving a lot of thought".

Lalbazar: Cricketer Mohammad Shami's wife Hasin Jahan visited Lalbazar on Saturday and recorded her statement regarding her allegations of rape, attempt to murder and mental and physical torture against her husband and his family. Kolkata police joint commissioner Praveen Tripathi was quoted as saying, "Police have charged Indian pacer Mohammad Shami and his brother with sections related to rape, domestic violence and causing hurt with poisoning after Jahan's complaint".

"Look Daredevils management can't take any unilateral decision in this matter". Shami's mother Anjuman Ara Begum, sister Sabina Anjum, brother Mohd Hasib Ahmed and sister-in-law Shama Parveen were also booked. "I've learnt from the Kolkata Police that they have included a non-bailable section against Shami and are starting a case against him", Jahan's lawyer Zakir Hossain confirmed.
