Mario Crashes Google Maps in New Update


"As a fun bonus, if you tap on one of those "?" marks within Google Maps 100 times, you will get the familiar "1-UP" sound from the video games.

Google often brings themed additions to its wildly popular Google Maps navigation app to celebrate pop culture. The discount starts on March 10 (MAR10, get it?) and runs through until March 25 across iOS and Android.

Once Google Maps has been updated through Google Play or the App Store and a destination is entered, a question block will appear at the bottom of the screen near the start button. Last year Google made the position marker Ms. PacMan for April Fools Day, and in 2015, the marker was changed to a TIE figure or X-Wing for the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

The mode will be available for a week.

In celebration of Mario Day on March 10, Google has introduced a quirky feature in its Google Maps application - users will be able to navigate Singapore's roads as the classic Nintendo character in his go-kart. Google also encourages you to take a screenshot of your trip and share it with them on Twitter and Instagram. On its blog, Google jokes, "Just keep in mind to practice safe driving on the road-we don't encourage throwing bananas or red shells at other drivers in real life!"

The company has in the past unleashed Pac-Man on city streets in Maps, let Google Maps streetview users go inside Doctor Who's TARDIS, and has let you travel by Loch Ness Monster, among other things.
