President Muhammadu Buhari receives the FIFA World Cup in Abuja


From the Abuja International Airport, the Trophy proceeded to the Transcorp Hilton for a press engagement with the media before moving to the Presidential Villa where President Mohamadu Buhari received the Trophy.

The president pledged his administration's support for the team towards winning the trophy in June.

The African songs will be added to the pool of FIFA World Cup global songs together with the official Coca-Cola World Cup anthem Colours done by Jason Derulo. Our passion for football cut across all ethnic groups and also plays a key role in unifying our peoples from various backgrounds, " he said.

President Buhari described football as a platform for economic development, saying it is a huge source of empowerment to the teeming Nigerian youths.

"Winning the world cup was the greatest part of my career and we had to do things that were a little bit insane to get our hands on that trophy", Karembeu said.

"We have worked very hard for it and we will continue to make Nigeria proud", Dalung said.

Also expressing his delight that Nigeria is one of the few special countries where the trophy would be seen in two different cities.

He said that Nigeria's Bobsleigh Winter Olympics Team hoisted Nigeria's flag for the first time in the competition, even though they are based in the United States.

The Falconets of Nigeria have been drawn in the Group D of the France 2018 Federation Internationale de Football Association U-20 Women's World Cup alongside Haiti, China and three time U-20 winners Germany.

Football-loving Nigerians on Thursday trooped out en masse to catch a glimpse of the FIFA World Cup trophy, which is on a four-day tour of Nigeria.
