Roberto Mancini tips Manchester City to win the Champions League

This is the best chance City has had to win Europe's biggest prize, especially with one of Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain sure to be eliminated this round.

Ilkay Gundogan dazzled with two goals in Manchester City's 4-0 romp at FC Basel on Tuesday to leave the Premier League leaders on the verge of the Champions League quarter-finals.

Kevin De Bruyne was removed from the action early and Guardiola also eased Leroy Sane back into action as a second-half substitute following his rapid recovery from an ankle injury.

With the return leg now surely a formality, City are nearly certain to breeze into the quarter-finals of the Champions League, with a real chance of lifting the trophy this season.

And Merse highlighted Spurs' come-from-behind 2-2 draw at Serie A champions Juventus as evidence Europe's top sides are unable to cope with the Premier League's brand of football.

I know Aguero won't be playing as many minutes as the others with the Champions League becoming the focus for Manchester City, but I don't know anyone else who can get four goals in a match on multiple occasions. Oberlin could also have earned a penalty, after tumbling under a challenge from Otamendi. Before Basel could catch their breath, it was 2-0 for the visitors thanks to a strike in the 17th minute by Portuguese winger Bernando Silva. OK, we could be more clinical but it was 4-0.

Valentin Stocker was the next Basel forward to nearly undo City via the direct route, but the difference in cutting edge was born out once more by Silva's sublime chest control and volleyed finish from Raheem Sterling's chipped 18th-minute cross. It was De Bruyne's 19th assist of a stunning season.

With Basel's defence buckling, Aguero, who terrorised Leicester City in the Premier League last Saturday with four goals in a 5-1 rout, hit his 29th goal of the season. The loose ball feel in the path of Sergio Aguero, who wasted no time in dispatching a 20-yard shot into the bottom-left corner.

Gundogan saved the best goal for last and it was another long-ranger that curled into the top corner from 25 meters.

Basel's visit to the Etihad Stadium on March 7 comes 10 days after City's engagement with Arsenal in the EFL Cup final at Wembley, with Premier League matches against the Gunners and Chelsea in between those two matches.

"We are doing great in terms of the English clubs", he says.
