Jose Mourinho to sell these two Man United stars in the summer

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is ready to sell Chris Smalling and Phil Jones during the summer transfer window and is urging the club's hierarchy to finance an overhaul of his defence.

The pair have failed to impress throughout the season for United, with Smalling particularly coming in for criticism following the 1-0 defeat by Newcastle on Sunday.

Neville's former club have conceded the fewest goals in the Premier League, but he insists the record is in spite of United's defensive double act at St James' Park.

United conceded the third fastest goal in Premier League history courtesy of Christian Eriksen's strike on their way to a 2-0 loss to Spurs at Wembley, a game which saw Jones net a own goal.

A Matt Ritchie goal was enough to secure Newcastle an important victory and Neville was quick to point out that Smalling and Jones lack decisiveness and are both liabilities because of it.

It's not the first time the two defenders have been linked with a move away from United, but despite the rumours previous year Mourinho persisted with Smalling and Jones in the hope they would adapt to his way of thinking.

Defensive duo Smalling and Jones struggled in each of those fixtures, with Neville accusing the under-fire England internationals of becoming a liability.

'Against Dele Alli and Harry Kane, they got bullied.

"We got control midway through the first half and should have scored. Against Newcastle did they make many mistakes, no, but they created a nervousness and a tension".

"They were making decisions all day where you were thinking: "What are you doing?"

The report claims that United will try sign Harry Maguire from Leicester City for £50m, and they are interested in a transfer for Raphael Varane from Real Madrid. The former, however, picked up a niggle during an worldwide duty and required an ankle surgery for it.
