Amit Shah greets PM Modi on being conferred Palestinian honour

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will make history today by becoming the first Indian premier to visit Palestine.

Three agreements in the education sector worth Dollars 5 million, one MoU for procurement of equipment and machinery for the National Printing Press and one for construction of a centre for empowering women were also signed.

The Presidential Headquarters in Ramallah is the compound that encompasses the Office of the President, offices of Advisors to President, in addition to the headquarters of the Presidential Guard.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Saturday suggested that India could be part of any future peace process on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, saying that Palestinians count on India to play a role in peacemaking.

"Well even Jordan and Egypt have full diplomatic relations with Israel so why can't India have", said Ayman, a university student. The Palestinian Authority had described the United States decision as unfair and is considering involving other countries such as China, Japan and India to resume negotiations with Israel.

Modi, who is here on his second visit to the UAE since 2015, has several meetings lined up in the evening and will also attend a banquet in the UAE capital.

It was the first visit of an Indian prime minister to Ramallah in 30 years.


The Prime Minister will onSunday visit Wahat Al Karama, the UAE martyr's war memorial in AbuDhabi.

"In recognition of his (Narendra Modi's) wise leadership and his lofty national and global stature, and in appreciation of his efforts to promote the historic relations between the State of Palestine and the Republic of India.In acknowledgement of his support to our peoples right to independence and freedom so that peace prevails in the region". He conferred the "Grand Collar of the State of Palestine" on PM Modi in special recognition of his contribution to enhancing relations between India and Palestine.

Mr Modi also the Union Budget was positive for farmers and the poor while citing the announcement of a health insurance scheme for 10 crore families, according to Parliamentary affairs minister Ananth Kumar.

In Ramallah, PM Modi paid tribute to the last Palestinian leader Yasir Arafat.

Structure of late President Yasser Arafat's mausoleum is a cube of 11m x 11m. PM Modi's visit to Palestine has come after he hosted his friend Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in India. This will also be his first-ever visit to Oman.

"His visit reflects our longstanding historical ties and is testament to our friendly bilateral relationship", Mohammed Bin Zayed tweeted separately.
