The sheriff said the Locust Grove police officer had just arrived on the scene as backup when the shooting took place.
- A Locust Grove police officer was shot to death and two Henry County Deputies were wounded in a shooting inside a Henry County home late Friday morning. They turned away people who don't live in the neighborhood.
Sheriff Keith McBrayer told the newspaper that one deputy was in critical condition and the other was stable Friday afternoon.
The sheriff said that "after about 10 minutes of talking with him realized they were going to be making an arrest, and they were going to have issues placing him in custody".
The Locust Grove officer was shot and killed at the scene. GBI spokeswoman Nelly Miles said the suspect's relatives were being notified before his name is released. At least 1 of the wounded deputies was rushed to Atlanta Medical Center. Locust Grove Elementary School, which was nearby, was put on lockdown during the response to the incident.
One of the deputies was Michael Corley, 49, whose brother told reporters that Corley asked for prayers and to see his kids, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.
The brother said the bullet hit Deputy Corley's vest, which saved his life.
