Detective Pikachu amiibo and game announced for North America

We will update this post as soon as the pre-order for the Detective Pikachu amiibo begins.

Playing as the young Tim Goodman, you'll partner up with gruff, battle hardened Pikachu as you investigate the disappearance of Tim's father.

Detective Pikachu includes all the chapters of the 2016 Japan-exclusive Nintendo eShop release, Detective Pikachu - Birth of a New Duo, but adds further content that completes the story. Cases that would be impossible for Tim to solve alone can be cracked with the help of this Pikachu, because he is able to obtain vital clues and information from other Pokémon. Detective Pikachu will hopefully get to the bottom of Nintendo's long running amiibo stock issues when the game releases for North America and Europe on March 23.

"This Pikachu claims that he worked with Tim's father, and the two pair up to discover his whereabouts. Look for clues, talk to witnesses, and uncover the secrets of Ryme City!" says the official release. Still, that won't keep me from pushing hard for Detective Pikachu in the next Smash Bros. You can check out a new English trailer for the game below (which, sadly, doesn't feature the voice of Danny DeVito). The Amiibo will cost $30 (with worldwide pricing yet to be revealed), launching on the same day as the game. As its title suggests, it features an oddly talkative Pikachu who also happens to be a detective. Missed some of the Pika Prompts during your investigation? Like all New Nintendo 2DS XL systems, it will play Nintendo 3DS games in 2D.

Great Detective Pikachu might be one of the strangest upcoming releases on any Nintendo platform.
