Nearing the end of 2017, a string of reports from women and men in Hollywood and mainstream media came forward to out alleged sexual abusers within their industries.
Though she didn't mention Weinstein by name, the crux of Oprah's Golden Globes speech was that a "new day is on the horizon" due to the #MeToo movement and the courageous women and men speaking out against sexual abuse and harassment in the workplace. The singer was married to Heidi Klum, who has herself been linked with Weinstein, as he served as the producer on her long-running reality show Project Runway. Oprah isn't the first star to be accused of turning a blind eye towards Weinstein's horrific behavior, but considering her recent speech, she certainly is one of the most surprising.
Along with the image, Seal captioned: 'Oh I forgot, that's right...you'd heard the [rumors] but you had no idea he was actually serially assaulting young starry-eyed actresses who in turn had no idea what they were getting into.
Oprah was awarded the Cecil B. DeMille Award for lifetime achievement during the 75th Annual Golden Globes on Sunday after which she delivered a speech that has many thinking she'll run for president in 2020. "My bad", Seal wrote in a comment before adding a hashtag for "Sanctimonious Hollywood". However, Oprah's spokesperson insisted this never happened.
As was previously reported, Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson told reporters that Weinstein and his company Miramax told him that he shouldn't work with Mira Sorvino or Ashley Judd because "they were a nightmare to work with". There it is, confirmation that Harvey Weinstein derailed my career, something I suspected but was unsure. "There are no plans for an interview at this time". But her fans can always hope that she'll change her mind.
