The company added that more than 73.6 million PS4 consoles have been sold to fans across the world since its launch in 2013.

The amount of consoles sold over the holiday season means that Sony has sold over 20 million consoles in total during 2017, which easily makes it the best-selling console of the year.

On top of this, the PlayStation Plus subscription service now has 31.5 million subscribers, meaning nearly half of all PS4 users are subscribed.

PS4 has now cumulatively sold through more than 73.6 million units, as of December 31, 2017. That puts Sony in the lead by a mile. The announcement was made on their website along with a number of other sales figures. The PS2 remains the best selling console of all time, with over 155 million sold.

"Thanks to the continued support from our fans across the globe, we are honored to announce remarkable sales during the holiday season", said John Kodera, President and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment. Doesn't sound like a lot? In total, up to 645 million PS4 game copies have been sold as of December 31, 2017. Stats were collected from mid-November through to the end of the year.

2018's "God of War" looks incredible.

Sales of Sony's PlayStation 4 aren't slowing down, with the manufacturer posting impressive holiday sales, pushing the console closer to the 75 million threshold.

The PlayStation 4 is an attractive box that easily fits into your home, and using it as more than a game console is a snap. So the presence of these games suggests all three, including Ghost of Tsushima, will be released this year.
