Two other athletes were injured in the incident and are undergoing treatment at the City's Max Hospital in Shalimar Bagh.
Police say that the incident was reported around 4am when the players were returning from an athletic meet in Panipat in a Swift Dzire vehicle.
Four powerlifting players were killed and two others injured seriously Sunday after a vehicle they were travelling in hit road divider and crashed into a roadside pole, police said. "He apparently was later taken to the AIIMS Trauma Centre", a hospital source said.
The four lifters - Tikamchand, Saurabh, Yogesh and Harish Roy - were rushed to the Raja Harishchandra Hospital, but were declared "dead on arrival".
The injured were identified as Saksham Yadav, a national-level powerlifter, and Rohit, he said.
According to the police, the vehicle first hit a divider and then crashed into an electricity pole.
A senior doctor at the AIIMS trauma said that Mr. Yadav's condition is extremely critical. He had one head injuries and severe internal bleeding. Due to the impact of the crash, the car's roof was shattered.
Yadav had won a gold medal for the country in Moscow in 2017. All the other athletes including Bali were residents of Timarpur in north Delhi.
"Prima facie, the auto was at a very high speed". The possibility of drunken driving has also not been ruled out.
The accident took place on the Delhi-Chandigarh highway.
