In a surprise announcement, Square Enix confirmed today that a new Tomb Raider game will be heading our way in 2018. 'We simply can't wait to take you on Lara Croft's defining adventure'. And wouldn't you know it, rumor has it the next Tomb Raider game will be known as Shadow of the Tomb Raider.
However, we may have to wait sometime before the game even gets officially unveiled, as the company is waiting for a "major event in 2018" to do so.
All of which means - if Crystal Dynamics is still on Tomb Raider too, and everything we've heard suggests so - there are now two big Tomb Raider titles in development.
Story info and a more specific release date on the third game are unknown at this time.
The Tweet that was sent from the official Tomb Raider account posted the following statement regarding a new Tomb Raider game.
Again, the message itself seems rather ordinary if only a bit cryptic in leaving out when or what this "major event in 2018" will be.
One of gaming's most iconic franchises, Tomb Raider, is getting another installment.
Lara Croft is the fiercely independent daughter of an eccentric adventurer who vanished years earlier.
Back in January, it was announced that Rhianna Pratchett-lead writer for both Tomb Raider and Rise of the Tomb Raider-would no longer be working on the series.
