Amazon Prime Video Lands On Apple TV

After being pulled from the No. 1 e-commerce site in 2015, the Apple TV box reappeared on the retail website in September, only to vanish again.

Amazon Prime Video does have an iOS app - it's worth noting - so that doesn't entirely explain why Amazon doesn't stock those Apple devices.

Google and Amazon have always been in discussion regarding on the best way to go about with their products and have an equally beneficial working relationship. It also can be watched on a Amazon Fire TV, Fire TV Stick, and Fire tablets. Now, Apple TV app users can watch Amazon Prime video shows like "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel", and movies such as "The Big Sick".

Why such good news for Apple TV owners, and such bad news for Fire TV and Chromecast owners?

Amazon.com Inc and Apple Inc have partnered to bring the Amazon Prime Video app to Apple TV in more than 100 countries, the companies said on Wednesday.

Like Apple and iTunes, if you want to see a recent blockbuster film such as Wonder Woman or an episode of The Walking Dead, you'll have to pay extra for it. If they manage to reach an agreement chances are you will still get to watch YouTube on Amazon devices after December 31st.

This could be a sign that the long-standing feud between Apple and Amazon has finally come to an end. Now Google has been unhappy with Amazon using its YouTube service on its devices and this was the first step to make Amazon agree to its demands. Where movies are not available for streaming via a Prime subscription, the app often says that the content can instead be purchased or rented. Whereas Amazon and Google sell cheap hardware monetized by services, Apple's core business involves selling superior hardware at a premium price. Now they are not available direct from Amazon, although earlier this year the company did briefly list the latest version of the device for sale on its U.S. site (but it has since been removed). They said that Google has been in talks with Amazon to ensure that both of its customers get access to each of their services irrespective of their platform.

The Fire TV loses access to its YouTube app on January 1, Google said.

It's also worth remembering that it supports playback of both music and video content via AirPlay, so even if the selection of native Apple TV apps doesn't cover your favourite service, you may still be able to stream it to your TV.
