Originally scheduled to launch on February 27, 2018, Far Cry 5's new release date is now March 27, 2018.

Ubisoft already has a fairly big 2018 lined up, but some of the titles planned for release next year have been hit with a delay. "Taking more time with Assassin's Creed Origins enabled our talented development team to fully express their creative vision", said Christine Burgess-Quémard, Ubisoft's Worldwide Studios Executive Director.

Far Cry 5For Far Cry 5, the extra time will allow the team at Ubisoft Montreal to make some additional improvements that will bring the best, most ambitious Far Cry experience in line with the team's original vision.

Saying that, though, if this extra production time results in Boomer digging up loot crates for players, I will take that back. In other words, the delay of Far Cry 5 has angered some gamers that were counting the days until its release. It's still unknown, however, when beta testing for the game will commence. Another possibility is "Watch Dogs 3", but it will likely be some time before we find out.

The press release does not divulge any details on the third, unannounced "franchise game" that apparently will not come out until mid-2019 at the earliest now.

"Our back-catalog performance throughout November followed the same excellent trends as in the first half of the year, and sales for Assassin's Creed Origins continued their positive launch trajectory", said Ubisoft's CFO Alain Martinez. The delay, Ubisoft says, is actually an extended deadline for developers to iron out last details. While the first installment didn't light the world on fire as they may have hoped, the E3 2017 reveal trailer excited many with the prospects of being able to fly and sail alongside the usual driving the series is known for.
