Manchester United manager José Mourinho has insisted that Luke Shaw is going to receive more opportunities in the first-team, after the full-back put in a "very positive performance" in his first start of the season in Tuesday's 2-1 victory over CSKA Moscow. He's injured, but he'll play for sure. I'm telling the truth.
"(Michael) Carrick no chance. No stories of Lacazette, David Silva.
I'm not playing for records, I don't want to stay in the history books of this club because of records.
Mourinho joked Arsenal's medical team had performed an "amazing" feat by turning Lacazette "from a no to a complete 90 minutes".
Wenger, however, hit back at Mourinho yesterday by insisting he wasn't using gamesmanship when he picked Lacazette to face United. "I was pleased with the attitude of the players".
He said: 'It's hard to say as we don't see what goes on behind the scenes. In the end, he could play.
Making a return to the stage which saw him suffer a horrific injury against Eindhoven twenty-seven months ago, Luke Shaw was given a chance to impress from the start by Mourinho. "Honestly, I am happy with his performance".
"After, he had a test on Friday morning and went to the game".
"We've drawn matches that are not good results". He certainly took his opportunity well and on another day he could have ended the game with a goal and assist, getting a chance himself in the 20 minute and providing both Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Rashford with chances both should have done better with. Mario Fernandes made a run to the byline and cut it back for Vitinho to stab home in the 45th minute but the had ball hit Alan Dzagoev, who was seemingly in an offside position, on the back before trickling into Sergio Romero's goal.
"Our opponents have all these issues", Mourinho told BT Sport.
"I wanted to make changes but changes in players that need a change and not spend a change on Luke", Mourinho added.
Meanwhile, CSKA dropped into the Europa League after Basel beat Benfica 2-0 away to join United in the last 16.
