Never represented Sunni Waqf Board in Supreme Court: Kapil Sibal

The Sunni Waqf Board on Wednesday distanced itself from its counsel Kapil Sibal's submission to the Supreme Court that the hearing of the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid case is held after 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

Modi's remarks came a day after Sibal while representing the Sunni Waqf Board on Tuesday urged the Supreme Court to defer hearing in the Ayodhya title suit till July 2019 when the next Lok Sabha elections will be over.

Reacting to the development, Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the Sunni Waqf Board, saying, "Everyone wants a time-bound solution, except the Congress and its leaders".

"Yesterday, Sibal advocated the cause of the Muslim community". The chairman of the body, Zufar Ahmed Farooqui said Sibal wasn't the board's lawyer and that Mehboob himself was not a member of the board, "but an individual party to the matter". You can present your argument quoting all facts and laws to save Babri Masjid. "You want to keep the issue unresolved for political gains and losses in the elections?" "You want to stop the hearing of Ram temple (issue) in the name of elections", Modi told a well-attended election rally in Ahmedabad district. "The Ram temple in Ayodhya will be built only when the Lord wants and the courts will decide and not Modi", he also said. He is entitled to do that but is it right for him to say: postpone hearing till 2019? Modi asked the Congress.

Union Minister of Law and Justice Ravi Shankar Prasad on Wednesday questioned the Congress Party's stand on the controversial Ram Janmbhoomi matter. "It is our appeal to the soon-to-be-crowned Congress president Rahul Gandhi, who is visiting temples in Gujarat these days, to clear his stand on the Shri Ram Mandir and explain to the people why is Sibal praying for a delayed verdict just when the translation work of voluminous court documents is over", he said. Amit Shah and the Prime Minister said I represented Sunni Waqf Board.

Modi said he faced a similar situation ahead of the Uttar Pradesh polls regarding triple talaq. "We have got nothing to do with his statement", Mehboob said.

"The Congress party has not only done injustice to Sardar Patel, but to Babasaheb Ambedkar as well".

On the cyclone Ockhi dissipating and sparing the state any devastation, Modi mocked the opposition partys slogan for the Gujarat elections, which said Congress ave che (Congress is coming).
