About 125 firefighters and two helicopters were at the scene battling the blaze, Stewart said. Meanwhile, other major wildfires were burning in other parts of the Southland, including the 65,000-acre Thomas fire in Ventura County and the 7,000-acre Rye Fire in the Santa Clarita area.

By 1 p.m. the northbound lanes of the 405 had also been reopened except for two of the slow lanes near the fire scene which are closed because of the staging of firefighting equipment.

"We expect to be out here all week fighting and containing this fire", Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti said.

More than 600 firefighters battled the blaze amid strong Santa Ana winds, some gusting at 70 miles per hour.
