San Antonio Spurs guard/forward Kawhi Leonard (quad) implied that he's close to making his season debut while talking to the media on Monday.
"This has been a good opportunity for him", [Gregg] Popovich said before the game. Still, it would be hard to predict the Spurs being a top-four team in the Western Conference without the team's superstar and, as a result, anticipation for Leonard's quadriceps injury has been palpable in recent days. "It's just based on how I feel is when I'll be released to play". I think they told you guys that I've been playing five-on-five. So that's where I'm at right now.
Leonard has missed the entire season to date. He has been participating in practices over the past few weeks, but said he still has a few more steps in his rehabilitation process before returning. "I should be back soon". He hasn't played since Game 1 of the Western Conference finals, a series he missed due to a sprained ankle.
Kawhi Leonard #2 of the San Antonio Spurs looks on from the bench in the third quarter against the Chicago Bulls at the United Center on October 21, 2017 in Chicago, Illinois. Rudy Gay took the small-forward duties vs. the Pistons and delivered a double-double.
Leonard's 25.5 points per game last season will certainly be a welcomed addition to the team once he is able to return to the court to help them win more comfortably in the future.
Will Leonard be back for Wednesday's game vs. the Miami Heat?
