Veteran Actor Shashi Kapoor Passes Away, Bollywood Celebs Offer Their Condolences!


Shashi Kapoor, the veteran actor and one of our most beloved members of the Kapoor family, breathed his last in a Mumbai hospital today.

The actor had been suffering from an old-age related illness. Shashi Kapoor started out as a child actor in his brother Raj's films Aag and Awaara.

Yesteryear actress Poonam Dhillon, who has worked with Shashi Kapoor in five movies including the likes of Basera, Trishul, Sawaal, Bepanash and Deshwasi, mourned his loss. He was honoured with Padma Bhushan in 2011 and received the prestigious Dada Saheb Phalke award in 2015.

He was born in Calcutta (now Kolkata) during the British Raj. Shashi Kapoor also appeared in several Merchant-Ivory films such as Heat And Dust and The Householder.

He directed Amitabh Bachchan in Ajooba and also a Russian film called Vozvrashcheniye Bagdadskogo Vora, and also produced major hits like Junoon, Kalyug, Vijeta and Utsav. "The funeral will be held tomorrow morning", he added.

His wife Jennifer died of cancer in 1984.

Satyam Shivam Sundaram, Deewar, Kabhi Kabhi were few of his notable movies. Neither of the three continued their careers in films owing to their accented Hindi and non-Indian looks lent by late mother.
