If Auburn can not carry this momentum and emotion across the state line into Georgia (which they did surprisingly well in 2013 after Kick Six), the Bulldogs will get sweet revenge on the Tigers.
Kickoff is at 4:00 p.m. ET.
At the time, Georgia already had clinched the SEC East title, while Auburn still had to beat Alabama to get to Atlanta.
Highlighted among the picks from Desmond Howard, Lee Corso, Kirk Herbstreit and guest picker Luther Campbell was the SEC championship game between Auburn and Georgia. Georgia gets revenge Saturday. There seems to be a myth around college football that it's hard to beat the same team twice in the same year, but the regular season victor is 5-1 in SEC championship rematches.
Regardless, the teams are indeed going to play Saturday.
Managers of Mercedes-Benz Stadium say the attendance will be 70,000+ for the game, likely the largest crowd so far in the stadium's short history.
Kirby Smart's team will be tasked with trying to score against a defensive line that tormented them in Jordan-Hare Stadium. A big part of Auburn's success will depend on the health of Kerryon Johnson, but the Tigers are good enough to win this game without him. They haven't played a team of that caliber just yet. In 2011, Georgia led LSU, 10-7, before falling 42-10. Georgia looked unstoppable in the weeks prior to the Auburn game so we'll see if the Bulldogs can use this second chance to take advantage of the neutral (if not home) field. From an amateur, non-doctor point of view, the injury appeared to be some type of collarbone issue.
The two teams are in different positions heading into the SEC Championship than they were just a few short weeks ago. Whether it be Isaiah Wynn defending the pass rush on the left side or the two guards trying to open holes in the run game, Auburn has Marlon Davidson, Derrick Brown and others to join in on making things hard. There's as much likelihood that his big toe is injured as it is his collarbone, but Johnson couldn't lift his arm and collarbone pain is said to be brutal.
Even after beating Georgia and Alabama in a span of three games, Auburn has never celebrated for more than 24 hours. To win, they would have to get well over 200. The first being Auburn is the hottest team in college football in late November. The Dawgs are in serious trouble, though.
