One terrorist was killed by security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Kulgam district on Tuesday.
Earlier in the day, the Special Operations Group (SOG) Kulgam and 9 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) of the Army cordoned off Nowbug Kund, Qazigund area of Kulgam following specific information about presence of militants.
"As the forces were conducting the searches, the militants fired upon them, triggering an encounter", he said.
The gunbattle had also resulted in injuries to a policeman and death of a terrorist.
A hideout of Jaish-e-Muhammad militant outfit was busted in the operation, said the official.
Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Nowbug Kund village in Qazigund area of Kulgam this morning. A police spokesman confirmed the death of two militants and added that the operation was still under way. Though some reports said Mudasir was a B Tech graduate, Pani ruled out this.
The official said that militants managed to change their positions from time and time while government forces sealed all the exit routes.
There have been three gun-battles between armed forces and the militants in Kashmir in the last 12 hours.
Meanwhile, internet services were suspended across southern districts of Pulwama, Anantnag and Kulgam on Tuesday. "The operation was called off after no contact was established with them", a police official said.
