This is why it doesn't come as a surprise to learn that GTA V might be the best-selling video game of all time.
Rockstar Game's zany open-world third-person shooter, GTA V has just hit an impressive milestone. The release consistently ranks both Grand Theft Auto Online and Grand Theft Auto V as big sources of revenue in 2017, right behind National Basketball Association 2K18 and National Basketball Association 2K17. Well, Grand Theft Auto V, the latest entry, is now the best-selling game of all time in the United States.
Take-Two increased its adjusted revenue forecast to $1.93 billion to $2.03 billion for the year ending March 31, from $1.65 billion to $1.75 billion.
"Looking ahead, we expect fiscal 2019 to be a record year for Net Bookings and net cash provided by operating activities led by the upcoming launches of Rockstar Games' Red Dead Redemption 2 and a highly anticipated new title from one of 2K's biggest franchises..."
In a news release from Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar's parent company revealed that Grand Theft Auto V has moved 85 million units, which, in terms of both revenue and units sold, makes it the US's best-selling game ever.
The incredible sales numbers are due in no small part to GTA Online, the feature that draws most players in every day to take part in missions, races, crimes, basically anything that the sprawling city environment has to offer.
It is nearly unheard of that a 4-year-old game is still at the top of video game sales charts, but Grand Theft Auto V is an anomaly. The game, originally released on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, has also been rolled out to the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
"It may not always be an online model, it probably won't always be a virtual currency model, but there will be some ability to engage in an ongoing basis with our titles after release across the board".
