Getting a player from the AAA level to the majors was a logistical nightmare for the New York Mets. According to syracuse.com, the partnership will begin after the 2018 season, when Washington's contract with the publicly-owned affiliate expires.

The New York Mets have always been attempting to bring the club's Triple-A affiliate closer to the "Big Apple" as the National League East franchise most recently partnered with the Las Vegas 51s of the Pacific Coast League. The Chiefs would become the Mets' Triple-A affiliate in 2019.

"This is a home run that ensures the Chiefs stay right where they belong while the next generation of "amazin" greats is fostered right here in Central New York", a statement from the Governor's office said.

"Active stockholders will shortly receive a voting proxy in the mail with details on the proposed transaction and instructions on how to vote by November 17, 2017", according to Gov. Cuomo's office.

If the sale is approved, the Chiefs will play at NBT Bank Stadium through the 2025 season.

Syracuse is now an affiliate of the Nationals. Now, it appears as though the organization has finally secured a Triple-A affiliate within the state of NY.

In a statement, Mets chief operating officer Jeff Wilpon thanked Gov. Cuomo, Sen.

The New York Mets have reportedly reached an agreement to purchase the Syracuse Chiefs, the Nationals' Class AAA affiliate, leaving the Nationals to find a new home for their top minor league club. The Double-A affiliate is in Binghamton and low-A short season is in Brooklyn. The Mets' deal with their current Class AAA club in Las Vegas also expires then.

"They would be an all-New York state team", Cuomo said.
