Ryan International gets CBSE show-cause notice; warns of revoking license


The CBSE issued a show-cause notice to Gurgaon's Ryan International School on Saturday, asking why its affiliation should not be withdrawn and said it failed to have in place "basic security measures".

Meanwhile, a "non- negotiable" plea for child safety conditions and implementation of guidelines has been filed in the Supreme Court to protect students from sexual abuse and murder in schools in the future. Speaking to reporters outside their residence, he condemned the incident and said the CBI will take over the investigation from the Haryana Police.

The drive against flouting of norms and rules by private school buses was launched after the rape of a five-year-old girl at her school in Shahdara and the killing of a seven- year-old boy in Gurugram's Ryan International School.

CBSE's decision to serve the notice was based on observations of a two-member fact-finding committee, which submitted its report on Friday evening.

CBSE has also issued a circular for its affiliated schools to ensure safety of children while on school campus. "Neither the school nor the parents can wait for months to get psychometric report or police verification of a teacher or staff to be appointed", said S Minaketan, principal of ODM Public School. The panel also highlights the breach the boundary wall of the school and the absence of any grill in the school washroom, which makes its very easily accessible.

"The CBSE said, from the entire sequence of events, it appears that the school is guilty of gross negligence and failed to ensure safety and security of the students in the school".

The school has been asked to explain why its CBSE affiliation should not be revoked for violation of bye-laws, PTI reported. "Details of the these committees along with contact details shall be displayed prominently on school notice board and conspicuously on the school website for information of all stakeholders", it read.

Pradyuman Thakur was found lying in a pool of blood in a toilet in the school on September 8.
