It was a misunderstanding, I apologise, says woman who slapped Army jawan


In the mobile video that had gone viral on social media, 44-year-old Smriti Kalra can be seen thrashing a soldier before walking back to her auto.

The incident took place on September 9, when an army subedar going towards Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway station to drop off five of its colleagues in a truck.

According to him, the woman had suddenly stopped her TATA Indica vehicle, walked up and started hitting him.The soldier did not resist and just kept asking her the reason. Delhi Police registered a case after a video went viral on social media where accused is slapping the army staff. "She is a graduate in Home Science", Delhi Police said. The army subedar asked him to talk to Kalra to explain the situation.

The soldier and other soldiers are seen trying to speak to her, but to no avail.

She apparently blamed the constable for being an Army personnel after which he came back to the truck and sat in the driver's seat.

In the complaint, it is also stated that the lady abused the Army men for no fault of theirs and even refused to give an explanation for her behaviour.

Giving a justification for her act, the woman said that as she informed earlier also there were some people who were following and harassing and it was a misunderstanding that's why that incident took place. Kalra, a divorcee who lives in Gurgugram, then walked up towards her vehicle and left the spot. However, the Army officer had asked his colleague to do a video recording of the incident. Subsequently, Kalra was arrested from her home in Gurugram and police also seized her vehicle.
