Gov. Andrew Cuomo made the announcement of resources for the islands after touring hurricane-ravaged areas there on Friday. We have a special connection with NY, as more US Virgin Islands residents list their place of birth as NY than any other state in the nation.

The trip likely will fuel speculation about Cuomo's interest in running for president in 2020.

Cuomo spoke on MSNBC about the trip to the Virgin Islands and was asked if he has aspirations for the White House.

"I love what I'm doing".

Cuomo will bring an assessment team to figure out how the state can best help the islands recover from Hurricane Irma, which drove 150-mile-an-hour winds across St. Thomas and St. John.
