Watford hold shaky Liverpool to thrilling 3-3 draw

Liverpool drew 3-3 at Watford in their opening game of the season, which Coutinho missed with a back injury.

The Reds' record signing netted shortly before the hour mark with what looked set to be the winning goal, only for Miguel Britos to nod the ball in following a corner after goalkeeper Simon Mignolet failed to parry the ball away from his line.

Although Klopp conceded that his team's defending could have been more aggressive, the German believes that Britos' equaliser should have been disallowed. We passed but we couldn't see what we actually wanted. Watford had their moments but pretty much around set-pieces.

Salah missed a clear chance for a debut goal in the first half but the Egypt global helped turned the game on its head within the first 12 minutes of the second half.

"But, of course, we defended majority really well. So I understand why Jurgen Klopp is being very bullish about not letting him go".

Okaka put them ahead inside eight minutes before the hosts scored two goals which could easily have been disallowed for offside. We had the [Robert] Lewandowski thing [at Dortmund] and that was hard when he went to Bayern on a free transfer.

Other results: Chelsea 2-3 Burnley; Crystal Palace 0-3 Huddersfield Town; Everton 1-0 Stoke City; West Brom 1-0 Bournemouth; Southampton 0-0 Swansea City. We expected a good reaction from our opponents but to play with the same intensity.

The Liverpool legend outlined the reason why Phillipe Coutinho has sensationally handed in a transfer request.

The Brazilian Coutinho issued an email requesting a transfer on Friday after the clubs owners Fenway Sports Group stated that the player would not be sold.

We all know Barcelona have made their interests known after Neymar departed for Paris, but Liverpool have remained stubborn in their approach to not wanting to sell him.

It is claimed that the Liverpool players fully understand that Coutinho can not say no to Barcelona and sympathise with him wanting to move to the Camp Nou. "Pre-season is over now and everybody's happy, I think we played a good pre-season and we can go with confidence into the new season". How can it change something for me?

He fumed: "I don't make the decision".
