GOAL! Shinji Okazaki stuns the Gunners by levelling the scores with five minutes on the clock.

Arsene Wenger has confirmed that he gave Olivier Giroud the chance to leave Arsenal this summer, but the powerful striker made a decision to stay put despite rumoured interest from a number of suitors including Everton.

Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud staked a claim for a starting place with the victor in a thrilling season-opening 4-3 victory over Leicester City in the Premier League on Friday.

The Gunners trailed 3-2 heading into the final 10 minutes at the Emirates Stadium, having earlier taken the lead inside two minutes through debutant Alexandre Lacazette.

After Aaron Ramsey leveled in the 83rd minute, Giroud sealed the three points within two minutes on an evening of thrilling attacks gifted by fragile defending.

But after deciding to stick it out for a sixth season at Arsenal, Giroud was the north London club's match-winner on the opening day of the new Premier League campaign after coming off the bench. I keep the faith and I still believe I can have an important part to play this season in the club.

Giroud had been linked with an exit during the summer, and Wenger admitted he considered allowing his most authentic target man to leave but the 30-year-old resisted the idea.

Asked if there was any update on Sanchez's situation, Wenger replied: "No. Giroud in his prime is at the top of his game".

"It was good. Obviously I'm still getting used to the English game, the positives and negatives, shall we say, but I'm learning". I know how important he is not only as a player but also in the group he has a big weight.

"For us it was a bit disappointing with the goals that we've let in and we shouldn't really be conceding in that way, but I think we showed great determination and great togetherness to get back into the game and we won it towards the end of the game". "Even when I played Giroud through the middle and him on the left he did very well on the left".

"Previously in the Premier League we've not got off to the best of starts, so it meant a lot for us to get a good start and get three points today".
