Conte regrets Matic sale to Manchester United

"You can see signs of what Jose's trying to do here at Manchester United in what he did at Chelsea when he built a big, powerful, strong team that's capable of winning the big trophies".

Madrid dominated proceedings against United for the large part, but Mourinho's men can take plenty of positives away from the game: Fellaini's influence, Romelu Lukaku scoring, Matic looking right at home in midfield and the fact that, despite being outclassed, they should have taken the game to extra time.

"You would applaud that but those players aren't even at the club now".

"Matic knows very well what I think about him. He is probably the best in England alongside N'Golo Kante". All of a sudden United are in the driving seat ahead of Chelsea to win the Premier League.

Many Chelsea fans believe the younger and more physical Bakayoko to be an upgrade on 29-year-old Matic, but Conte has concerns given that the French worldwide arrived injured and will still need time to reach full fitness and properly settle into his new surroundings.

Chelsea have brought in Tiemoue Bakayoko to replace Matic, while Alvaro Morata, Antonio Rudiger and Willy Caballero have also been signed this summer.

Jose Mourinho's men could only muster a painful 1-1 draw in this fixture last season - a result reflective of their ongoing woes at home in the Premier League last season - and cannot afford to start off in the same way on Sunday.

"You are not only improving United in defensive midfield, you are making Pogba better, [Ander] Herrera better".

Matic was speaking after making his competitive United debut, playing the entirety of Tuesday's 2-1 UEFA Super Cup loss to Real Madrid despite having had only 45 pre-season minutes in red under his belt.

"This season, I think the transfer window has gone good for them".
