Two children were imprinted on their faces with an entry seal while they visited their father who has been lodged in the Bhopal Central Jail in Madhya Pradesh.
The Madhya Pradesh Human Rights Commission (MPHRC) too has taken cognisance of the matter after photographs of two children including a girl with an entry seal on their faces was published by Nai Dunia.
On the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, many had visited Bhopal Central Jail to meet the inmates on Monday. "The commission has asked to immediately stop the practice of stamping seals on people coming to meet relatives in jail", said an MPHRC statement. The jail authorities stamped the faces of children entering the prison with an entry seal stamp. "We have served a notice to director general of jails seeking explanation about the incident", commission's public relation officer L.R. Sisodia told PTI. "So, a stamp is embossed on the hand of a visitor to identify them", he added.
Madhya Pradesh jail minister Kusum Mehdele has ordered an enquiry into the entire incident even as Bhopal Central jail authorities continue to maintain that it was an isolated case where the kids were stamped on the face out of enthusiasm and without any ill will. "Action will be taken against the guard responsible only if it is found that the identity mark was put deliberately...."
