Ruth Negga reunites with Brad Pitt for a sci fi epic

Preacher star Ruth Negga has joined Brad Pitt and Tommy Lee Jones in the upcoming sci-fi flick Ad Astra, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The film, from New Regency and director James Gray, will tell the story of a man journeying "across a lawless and unforgiving solar system to find his missing father, a renegade scientist who poses a threat to all of mankind", reports THR.

Negga has already worked with Pitt, appearing in his action flick World War Z.

Ruth Negga is now reprising her role as Tulip O'Hare on Season 2 of AMC's hit series Preacher, which still has four episodes remaining to air.

After a handful of movie roles and a stint on ABC's Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, Ruth struck gold previous year with her Oscar-nominated performance in the critically acclaimed Loving. Her other film work includes Warcraft: The Beginning, The Samaritan, Shirley, Isolation, and Iona.

The actress has seen her star skyrocket in recent years, while also keeping one foot firmly in genre entertainment.

Nominated for Best Actress Oscar this February, which was claimed by Emma Stone for La La Land, she's the first thespian to reach Hollywood stardom since Richard Harris was nominated for an Oscar in 1990 for The Field.

The half-hour film is now in production in Ireland and Negga has lent her voice as McCourt's grandmother.
