New Pak PM meets Nawaz Sharif before finalising Cabinet

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, who took oath of his Office on Tuesday after securing 221 votes in the Lower House of 342, met the former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in Murree for consultations on the new Federal Cabinet.

Abbasi's cabinet was expected to be sworn-in at the Presidency at 5:30pm Wednesday but the event was delayed as the party failed to finalise the allocation of ministries.

The attendees discussed the prevailing political situation in the country besides consulting over formation of the new federal cabinet, sources said.

He made the statement while talking to media on Wednesday.

When asked if Nisar was being considered, he said he had nothing to say about that for now.

The 43-member cabinet of Nawaz Sharif included 20 federal ministers, nine ministers of state, five advisers and nine special assistants to the prime minister.

PML-N lawmakers banged on benches and chanted "Lion, lion Nawaz Sharif" after Abassi was voted in, standing defiant in the wake of the Supreme Court's decision to cut short Sharif's third stint in power.

Meanwhile, the party is also considering names of two military men in PML-N ranks Abdul Qayyum and Abdul Qadir Baloch as Interior Minister in the new cabinet, replacing party stalwart Chaudhry Nisar. "It is my firm belief that Nawaz Sharif will return to the seat of premiership", he said.

"The Chinese side extends warm congratulations to Abbasi on assuming the post of prime minister of Pakistan".

He expressed the confidence that the people will get the PML-N candidate elected with a heavy mandate in NA-120 bye-election.
