WKU's Fant named to Paul Hornung Award Watch List

Monday's announcement is the latest in a series of releases featuring Big Ten students on various preseason watch lists for all of the major college football awards.

Nebraska senior receiver De'Mornay Pierson-El has been named to the watch list for the 2017 Paul Hornung Award presented by Texas Roadhouse. A panel of college football experts selects players for the Paul Hornung Award Honor Roll based on performance each week during the season.

Tre' Williams added to his list of preseason accolades on Monday.


Auburn's Rudy Ford was part of the 2016 Hornung Award preseason watch list for his versatility in the defensive backfield and on special teams. Edwards. Ten Butkus Award recipients have matriculated from current Big Ten schools since the award debuted in 1985, with Ohio State's James Laurinaitis being the most recent Big Ten honoree in 2007. Johnson (2003) and Sergio Kindle (2009) are the only other Longhorns to be named finalists.

The 6-foot-4, 248-pound McCray started at linebacker in all 13 games for MI in 2016. He finished third on the team with 62 tackles (42 solo), while totaling 8.5 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks. He led the Longhorns that season in quarterback pressures (six) and was fourth with his seven tackles for loss, while also adding three pass breakups, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. He was a second-team Football Writers Association of America honoree, becoming the first Husker freshman to make the FWAA All-America team.
