Injured opener Murali Vijay was ruled out from India's upcoming Test series against Sri Lanka on Monday, the cricket board said on Monday, with Shikhar Dhawan named as his replacement. Vijay has suffered a wrist injury and will undergo a rehabilitation program before being eligible for selection.
The Tamil Nadu cricketer was subsequently replaced by Shikhar Dhawan in the 16-member squad for the three-match series starting July 26 in Galle. Available on Android and IOS. Dhawan last played a Test during India's home series against New Zealand in Kolkata in October 2016.
Vijay had suffered a wrist injury during the Test series against Australia which India won 2-1. Vijay had also picked up an injury on the left shoulder during the final Test against England in Chennai, making him sit on the sidelines for a month.
On the back of impressive performances in the IPL, finishing as the leading run-scorer in the Champions Trophy 2017 and two fifties in the five-match ODI series against West Indies helped Dhawan secure his spot in the side.
On the other hand, Murali Vijay has not played any competitive cricket since the end of the Australia Tests. Star batsman Rohit Sharma and pacer Mohammad Shami were re-called for the Sri Lanka tour scheduled to be held from July 26 to September 6.
Chasing a competitive target of 191, Lewis smashed his way to an unbeaten 125 off 62 balls with as many as 12 sixes and six fours as the reigning World T20 champions knocked off the runs in only 18.3 overs. The will be India's first full series in eight years in Sri Lanka, involving all three formats of the game.
