The move earned a lot of goodwill from analysts and customers alike, and helped push its latest OS - including its new voice assistant, Cortana - out to many more devices. Microsoft won't let affected hardware install the Creators Update because "Icons and/or text throughout the Windows interface may not appear at all, or may appear as solid color blocks on some devices".
"Windows 10 is no longer supported on this PC", the message reads, before adding: "Uninstall this app now because it isn't compatible with Windows 10".
Microsoft's LinkedIn division has built a new Windows 10 desktop version of the LinkedIn app, which it's rolling out this month. Windows Central has spotted that Microsoft now refers to the fall update as "Autumn Creators Update" on its United Kingdom dedicated site. Year-to-date, MSFT has gained 18.51%, versus a 10.87% rise in the benchmark S&P 500 index during the same period.
"Microsoft is working with our partners to provide compatible drivers for these processors".
This means that users will get live updates on tiles and within the Action Centre on their computers.
Suppose Microsoft follows its deadlines, any device running version 1607 of Windows 10 will officially be barred from receiving updates starting early 2018.
On the other hand, it is expected that most people would refer to the update as to Windows 10 version 1709, and Microsoft now itself uses the version number in its official documentation. If worse comes to worse, you'll probably want to pick up a new laptop. "This is more than a one-time upgrade", Windows chief Terry Myerson wrote in the blog post introducing Windows 10.
The features that are being previewed in this Insider build of Windows Server today will all be rolled in to Windows Server's "Semi-annual Channel". There will also be a "Long-Term Servicing Channel" that will be updated every three years and receive long term support. Not all features in an update will work on all devices.
