Building heat and humidity to fuel heavy storms this week


A weak front will provide some lift and we could see afternoon storms.

Monday is expected to be clear with a high of 81 degrees and light southeastern winds in Boston, before more cloudy conditions and temperatures in the 60s arrive in the evening. Heat indices will be between 88 and 90 this afternoon, but they'll get near 100 later in the week. Starting Tuesday and continuing through the rest of week, many of us are looking at afternoon highs in the mid 90s with feel like temps between 100-105. Northwest wind around 5 miles per hour becoming light and variable in the evening. The heat index, or feels-like temperature, could reach as high as 110 by Friday in central and eastern North Carolina. High temperatures will be in the middle and upper 90s Thursday. For the second half of the week, we are likely to see highs make their way into the mid 90s and upper 90s will be possible.

Tuesday Night. Mostly clear, with a low around 78. Lows Sunday night will fall into the low 70s. Strong to severe thunderstorms accompanied by strong wind gusts are possible Monday, the service said, with the highest risk in Berkshire and western Franklin and Hampshire counties. You'll still need to water your lawns and plants as the next best chance for rain comes by the end of the week.

Friday Night. Partly cloudy, with a low around 80.

Wednesday: Sunny and hot with a high near 99. Highs have been in the 90s since Monday.
