Arc System Works unveiled BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle through a trailer that was shown off after the BlazBlue: Central Fiction grand finals at EVO 2017, the world's largest fighting game competition. A 2D fighting game, Cross Tag Battle is a crossover title that features characters from franchises like Persona 4 Arena, BlazBlue, and Under Night In-Birth. A new character and a new game. Joining the BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle roster, which includes BlazBlue's Ragna the Bloodedge and Jin Kisaragi, are Yu Narukami from Persona 4 Arena, Hyde from Under Night In-Birth, and Ruby Rose from RWBY.
If you're not familiar with RWBY, it's because it's not a video game (well, it has a video game titled RWBY: Grimm Eclipse, but it's a fairly niche production), it's an anime-style web series created by animator Monty Oum and published by Rooster Teeth. Well, considering that Arc System Works has its hands full with Dragon Ball FighterZ, we assumed it would be a while.
Central Fiction was released a year ago on PlayStation 4, and completed BlazBlue's sprawling narrative. The studio also released a new trailer for the game's next playable character, the Six-Heroes' mightiest swordsman, Jubei.
I didn't see this coming at all, and I'm sure it's going to make a lot of fighting game fans happy.
