Kohli deflects question on Kumble saga

Kumble, in his parting statement, has said Kohli had reservations about his coaching "style" and there partnership was untenable as he did not accompany the side in the ongoing tour to the West Indies.

Local media has reported that Kohli found Kumble's brand of coaching a bit too assertive and their relationship was beyond fix. The situation worsened further after India's humiliating loss to arch-rivals Pakistan in the Champions Trophy final.

The Indian team on Tuesday left for the West Indies, where they are to play five One-day Internationals (ODI) and a solitary T20 worldwide. "That is what the whole team believes in", he added. "And we all respect him totally", Kohli very consciously made it clear that he won't talk about coach Kumble's role. "We have created a culture over the last 3-4 years that whatever happens in the change room, we've tried to keep it private and highly confidential throughout", the 28-year-old captain said. All the years that he has played. "For us that is paramount", according to The Indian Express.

The BCCI top brass had an inkling that all was not well but they were taken aback when they came to know that captain Virat Kohli and chief coach Anil Kumble were not in talking terms for the "last six months". "It's something that has happened right after the tournament", Kohli said on the eve of the first ODI against the West Indies. "That's no taking away that aspect of him at all". "As I said, his point of view is out there and we respect that decision".

"It's no secret that skipper Virat Kohli wants Shastri back at helm and Shastri was spoken to so that he applies for the interview process, but the former team director isn't willing to be in a position where his claim is rejected again' said a source from the BCCI".

However, even though Kohli played down all the speculation, his true feelings about Kumble were revealed when he met with BCCI secretary Amitabh Choudhary, CEO Rahul Johri and MV Sridhar, who is the general manager of cricket operations, in London on Monday.

Kumble's original contract expired with the team's Champions Trophy campaign, but the former captain was tipped to get an extension after enjoying a successful run during his year in charge. I hated him! But stuck with him for 20 years.
