Celtics, 76ers finalize deal to swap top picks

When the news broke over the weekend that the Boston Celtics and Philadelphia 76ers were swapping draft picks, NBA Draft Week took on an entirely different tone.

Markelle Fultz looks like he is heading to a new team, in the Eastern Conference, and the rest of the league needs to sit back and examine the fallout and the potential ripple effect it may have on the rest of the NBA Draft, the top 5 especially.

Our hometown Chicago Bulls hold the 16th and 38th overall selections in the 2017 NBA Draft.

"It's been a little insane last couple days", Duke forward Jayson Tatum said Wednesday.

Furthermore, Florida State one-and-done Jonathan Issac reportedly will not workout for teams picking outside No. 4 in the 2017 NBA Draft.

The Philadelphia 76ers thrilled their fans and left some suspense surrounding Thursday's National Basketball Association draft.

Colangelo said he had discussed the Lakers' 2018 pick, which former GM Sam Hinkie secured for Michael Carter-Williams, with Celtics assistant GM Mike Zarren for "a year and a half, it seems". There's plenty to love about how Lonzo runs an offense and the Lakers need a quality lead guard.

The Lakers haven't quite guaranteed Ball will end up with the team, according to Shams Charina of The Vertical. At this point, it would be a significant surprise if he wasn't taken No. 2 overall.

The Sixers are already in position to draft Fultz number one, and Markelle has definitely expressed deep interest in coming to Philadelphia, especially in the last three or four days.

The Knicks have the No. 8 pick and should be able to get a guard who they hope to convert into someone who can play well in the triangle offense.

Fultz averaged 23.2 points, 5.7 rebounds and 5.9 assists in 25 games during his lone college season at Washington, excelling on a team that finished 9-22 and lost its final 13 games. He was the top freshman scorer in the country. Teams will play off of him and go under ball screens until he develops a consistent jumper.

Whatever the case, the Celtics president of basketball operations will make a move at some point.

Tatum could be another wing option that could come off the bench and make an immediate impact just like Brown did past year. "He has good athleticism at 6'8" that will allow him to remain a consistent threat at the next level. He's also a great passer and rebounder for his position. This, along with his Kansas Jayhawks pedigree, makes him a ideal addition for a ready-made contender that was the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference last season.

Rookie of the Year and MVP? The Celtics have the luxury to select a role player with one of the first few picks of the draft - Jackson's upside remains high.

Please bear in mind that all of this could be pre Draft posturing and rumour mongering.
