NCAA Baseball Tournament: Texas Baseball's destination announced


For the second year in a row, the No. 5 Texas Tech baseball team will host the NCAA Lubbock Regional this weekend at Dan Law Field.

Iowa won the 2017 Big Ten Baseball Tournament by beating Northwestern in the championship game.

First-year head coach Greg Lovelady has led the Knights to a 40-20 overall record and captured The American's regular-season championship.

The Tigers were one of seven ACC schools chosen to the NCAA Tournament, joining Florida State, Louisville, North Carolina, NC State, Virginia and Wake Forest.

Top-seed Kentucky (39-20) opens regional play Friday against OH (31-26).

The Florida State, who had a slow start to the season but won their last six games and the ACC Tournament this weekend, will host Tennessee Tech on Friday in the Tallahassee regional, joined by UCF and Auburn. Selection of the eight super regional hosts will be announced on, Tuesday, June 6 at approximately 8 a.m. (ET). In its regional pod, Arizona earned the No. 2 seed and will face No. 3 seed Sam Houston State at 4 p.m. PT on June 2.

Oral Roberts, the Summit League champs, come into the Regional on a nine game winning streak. They will play Rice in a game slated for 7 pm.

The Deacons also have NCAA experience, having played in the tournament a year ago.

MI (42-15) will begin their tournament run on Friday, June 2 at 1 p.m. ET in Chapel Hill.

The 71st Men's College World Series begins play Saturday, June 17, at TD Ameritrade Park Omaha in Omaha, Nebraska.

North Carolina (47-12), which missed the national tournament the past two years, is No. 2 after winning 18 of its past 22 games. The host of the super regional will be determined based on which teams advance.

The Trojans (35-22) are back in the upstate of SC, where they are the No. 4 seed in a regional hosted by a Clemson team that has scuffled through the past month - going just 11-16 in its last 27 games.
